The dark underbelly of resistance

The dark underbelly of resistance

We’ve all been there…when it seems like no matter how hard you try, things just keep getting worse. So you try harder and harder to no avail.  Your life is collapsing before your very eyes.

Until you hit rock bottom.

You can’t but wonder, “Why me?”  “What did I ever do to deserve this?”

You cry.  You have anxiety attacks.  You lose your temper.  You think that you’re on the precipice of a nervous breakdown.

Maybe it gets to the point where you can’t help but laugh.  Because in doing so, you see some sort of sick twist of fate working for you and not against you.

But that’s just it…fate is at play to work for you and not against you.

No, I don’t live in a perpetual state of blind optimism.

When you’re not travelling the path that you’re supposed to be on, the Universe will conspire for you to get on the right path.  And they will present you with numerous opportunities for you to get back onto your course of action.  But, if you ignore it, well, you’re entire world will crumble.

Say you’re not in the right profession for what you’re truly meant to do.  Maybe you lose one job due to lay offs.  Because you have a killer resume, you’re not worried.  After going on several interviews and a few months later, still crickets.

Finally, as if by some force of a miracle, someone calls you and offers you a job in the same profession so you happily accept.  You get into work and start to truly kill it.  You’re not too happy there because you feel bored.  You don’t feel intellectually stimulated anymore.  You don’t feel the same rush you used to feel. Nonetheless, your numbers are showing how awesome you are at what you do.

The money’s great so the way you feel you should be looking at it is to count your blessings.

But there’s still that nagging feeling that something’s for kilter.  You spend your days dreaming and romanticizing about starting your own business, travelling the world, writing a book.

Again, the money’s great. In fact, you’re making more money now than you were at the job you lost.  So, you shrug off the feelings of something being amiss.  You need to feel gratitude for what you have is the story that is now on autopilot.

Then, one day you’re called into the office to meet with one of the “Powers  that be" for what you think will be even more praise for your work ethic and uncanny ability to get the job done.

When you get in, you’re told that your services are no longer needed and that you need to pack your things by the end of the day.  They didn’t even give you a legitimate reason for the demise of your employment.

Bummed, you’re on the job prowl again.  You’re resilient so you’re not going to let this get the best of you.  You’re better than that you tell yourself.  In between interviews and searching for jobs, you fantasize about what you really want to do.  But, because you have bills to pay, you convince yourself that it’s just nonsense.

A few months passes and you land a new job in the same profession.  You think the same thoughts. You produce the same results.

Now, you’re living paycheck to paycheck because you used up your savings for the previous two unemployment stints.  Another few months later, you’re repeating the cycle of losing your third job.

See what just happened? The example that I gave for the profession may not relate to you, but you can see where it applies to your own life. Maybe it’s leaving that toxic relationship, maybe it’s moving across the country or world, maybe it’s getting your health on track.

That’s the dark underbelly of resistance.  That’s why our worlds seem to coming crashing down on us.

We’re presented with numerous opportunities to follow our true calling.  But, those moments of idolizing our utopian lives are quickly dismissed by our minds.  So, we don’t heed that call.

That call is our intuition. It’s our higher self nudging us in the right direction telling us to allow our inner fire burn the eternal flame. Because when we do, we will find true happiness.  We’ll become magnets for abundance.

But we don’t.  We want to play it safe.  We want to conform to others expectations of us.  There are others who rely on us so we can’t possibly disappoint them.  So, we sacrifice ourselves to bring a paycheck home.

We resist our soul’s purpose.  When we resist, we slowly repel every area of our lives until we have nothing left.  And in that state of nothingness, sometimes we still remain in a state of resistance refusing to see that we’re meant for more.  We succumb to mediocrity thinking that those were the cards dealt for us.

How do we climb out of resistance into abundance?  When I say abundance, I mean it in all aspects of life; health, family, friends, love, career, spirituality, and money.

We get into a state of being.

Let’s take the previous example again.  Rather than allowing the daydreams to pass you right by, you can slowly start to pursue your deepest desires.  You don’t have to go full throttle- start with 15 minutes a day and gradually increase the time you dedicate on your pet project.

There comes a point that you won’t even have to force yourself to chase your dreams because it will become second nature.  Don’t ignore that little voice that tells you to go after what it is that you truly want. Those daydreams are there for a reason. To turn those dreams into reality. Not to stay in your mind without any cause and action.  If you can’t think it, you can make it.

Again, let’s go back to the profession and where you jobless in the futile pursuit of anything that will pay.  Your getting antsy and nervous because your savings are quickly getting depleted.  As tough as it may be to not worry where the next paycheck is going to come from, don’t.  The more you worry, the more you’re pushing money away.  The more you say “I want" and “I desire,” the more you’re pushing away what you want.

That’s not to say that there’s anything wrong with wanting and desiring, because we all want and desire. But, if you put yourself into a state of being what you want, you’re going to attract it much quicker.

And I don’t mean faking it till you make it.  That’s not authentic.   I mean genuinely and sincerely operating at the happiest version of yourself.

Notice that when you’re smiling and laughing, that people are automatically drawn to you?  You could be walking the streets of NYC with this big, beautiful radiant smile and a cabbie will stop short just to let you cross the street.

Your energies are intoxicating everyone in your presence.  When you’re vibing high and care-free, everyone is smitten by you. You wind up getting backstage passes to the concert that you’re going to, you get a free lunch because the cashier says you’re too nice to have to pay, you get a discount when you go buy clothes.  You can get all of that and then some.  You can get ANYTHING.

Raise your vibrations. Smile.  Laugh.  Say hi to people.  Make the world a better place with one smile at a time.
