Fall Detox/ Weekend Detox Schedule

Welcome to the start of the Fall Equinox!  I wrote about the symbolism of this here so feel free to check that out when you have a moment to spare.  With the start of each season, it’s recommended that we do a light detox as our bodies are adjusting to the new weather approaching us. So, I created a light and easy detox for the weekend and the schedule along with the recipes are posted below.  Hope you have fun and feel refreshed after this!


Friday afternoon/early evening

1) Purge writing- spend about 20-30 minutes writing anything that comes to mind.  Nothing has to be cohesive or even grammatically correct.  This will help release everything so that you start the detox in the right frame of mind.

2)  Clean out your closet- get rid of everything that does not fit, that you don’t like and or wear, does not inspire you to be and look your best, and switch out seasonal clothing,   It’s the start of a new season which means that it’s the start of a new you.

3)  Have a cup of digestive tea* (recipe below)

4)  Make kitchari** for dinner- recipe below

5)  Write down 20 things that you’re grateful for.


Saturday morning

1)  Drink a glass of warm lemon water- it helps balance PH levels, gives a boost of energy, aids in digestion and detoxification, reduces inflammation, boosts the immune system, and hydrates the body, amongst a myriad of other benefits.

2)  Greet the day with sun salutations- I inserted a YouTube video just in case anyone needs referencing.  In the event that you’re familiar with them, do twelve sets of sun salutations-six on each side.

3)  Chakra balancing meditation- its best if this is done outdoors so that you can really connect with nature.  So, if you can get outside, great!  If not, then just find a comfortable spot in your home.   Again, I refer to YouTube for this-sometimes by way of a guided meditation or just having some music with my earphones in really helps me to get in my element. 

4)  Dry body brushing- this is great to detox your lymph nodes while exfoliating your body.  Right before you enter the shower, take a dry body brush (can be found in the bath and body aisle of pharmacies) starting at your feet and brush your body in upwards circular strokes moving towards your heart for a few minutes.

5)  Oil your body- After you’re done brushing your body, lather some oil (I love coconut oil mixed with lavender) all over yourself.  This is especially helpful in the colder months as the oil will act as a barrier against the hot shower leaving your body smoother and softer.

6)  5 minute self-oil massage- After showering, take some time to pamper yourself with a massage.  Smooth out whatever kinks, knots, or soreness you may have and relish this act of self-care.

9)  Write down 20 things that you’re grateful for.

Saturday afternoon

1)  Read a book- Take a pause from life for yourself and curl up with a book that you’ve been meaning to read but haven’t gotten around to it because life just somehow happened to get in the way.

Saturday evening

3) Moon salutations- Greet the moon and pay homage to your inner divine femininity by doing some moon salutations.  I have inserted a YouTube video below for your reference.  However, if you’re already familiar with them, then do 12 sets-6 on each side.

4)  Write down another 20 things that you’re grateful for.

5)  Reflect on your day- journal your thoughts about how your detox feels or you can also do some purge writing-whatever suits your mood.


Sunday morning/afternoon/evening

* Ayurvedic tea- Cumin, Coriander, and Fennel tea (CCF) is known for detoxification, weight loss, and reducing water retention.  The recipe can’t be any simpler, see below.

CCF tea

¼ tsp cumin

¼ tsp coriander

¼ tsp fennel

tea strainer


hot water


Boil water and pour in mug.  Place seeds in tea strainer, put in mug, and let steep for 5 minutes before drinking.


**Kitchari is an Ayurvedic one pot meal that provides our bodies with all of the nutrients that are needed while aiding in digestion.  The recipe that is posted below was derived from an Ayurvedic cooking class that I took a while back and loved.  It will be exactly the same for all the meals so if you need a little more variety, feel free to supplement other vegetables of your choice each day.  If you plan on making on big kitchari pot for the entire day to save yourself time, it’s best that you don’t heat it up in the microwave, but rather steam it each time around for leftovers. It’s also recommended that we have a kitchari diet for seven days so if you’d like to only eat this for an entire week to get the full benefits of the detox, then go right ahead. 


Recipe (Serves 4 so if you’re eating alone, you can always steam it for each meal)

½ cup mung dal

1 cup basmati rice

1 tbsp ghee

1 tsp ground turmeric

6 curry leaves (if it’s not accessible to you, you can use a couple of bay leaves)

2 small Thai chile- sliced

3 tsp Masala powder

2 tsp salt

1 cup diced sweet potatoes

1 cup diced zucchini


1.  Soak the dal and rice for 30 minutes or overnight.  Rinse and drain well.

2.  Heat ghee in a 4-quart saucepan on low heat.  Add turmeric and lightly toast for 10 seconds, followed by curry leaves and chile and allow to toast for 30 seconds.  Add both the dal and rice stirring frequently.  Once it looks almost dry, add masala, salt, sweet potatoes, and 4 cups of water.  Bring to a full boil, then cover on low heat and bring to a simmer stirring occasionally.  About 30 minutes later, add zucchini and allow to cook for another 10 minutes.  If anything has stuck to the bottom of the pot, then add more water.  You’re looking to have a really thick soup.

3.  Feel free to garnish with any fresh herbs and/or black pepper.
